Dear friend,

On behalf of the entire JustLeadershipUSA team, thank you for another incredible year. From launching the JustUS Coordinating Council to becoming an International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accredited provider, our accomplishments this year would not have been possible without our incredible community of supporters.

Your commitment to elevating systems-impacted leadership has been a vital force to propel our work and advance our shared mission to begin undoing the harms of mass incarceration.

We are especially excited to announce the creation of a pilot program in partnership with Chicago Beyond to build a strong bench of systems-impacted individuals in the Chicagoland area who can make meaningful change in their community and beyond. The pilot program will begin by recruiting local leaders who have direct experience of the criminal legal system to attend an Emerging Leaders™ training in Chicago on February 2-3 on leadership, advocacy, and policy, with a specific focus on the issues directly impacting Chicago, and who also will be eligible to apply for the grants. Learn more and register by January 19.

Next year is JLUSA's 10th anniversary year, a landmark year to celebrate our historic achievements and launch our bold next steps. This giving season, the full support of our community will affirm the power of systems-impacted leadership and guarantee our path onward and upward.

Now through December 31, all donations up to $40,000 will be matched by the Elias Foundation. Please help us meet our goal to ensure the continued growth and success of our programs and empower future generations of leaders to thrive!

Invest in directly impacted leadership today at jlusa.org/give2023.

Thanks to your collective impact, our network of leaders has grown to 1,600+ alumni who are demonstrating leadership in action across 45 states and Washington, D.C.

This year, JLUSA leaders have been recognized for their impact as community leaders and outspoken advocates for justice:

Dieter Cantu (Leading with Conviction™ 2020) partners with Reebok and Global Citizen on new “Take Action” footwear and apparel line.

Tiawana Brown (LwC 2020) becomes the first formerly incarcerated Charlotte City Council member.

Jamira Burley (LwC 2015) was named one of ESSENCE magazine’s “Power 40.”

Ruby Welch (LwC 2023) received a community service award from the Little Rock NAACP.

We continued to speak out and ensure our voices were at the forefront of issues closest to our communities:

Johnny Perez (LwC 2017) wrote about the necessary role of philanthropy in ending solitary confinement in The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

Mark Rice (LwC 2017) protests "vicious" Wisconsin prison conditions.

JLUSA Senior Movement and Capacity Building Specialist Lester Young spoke at TEDxHilton Head about the power of redemption.

Robyn Hasan Simpson (LwC 2022) addressed the spike in incarcerated women.

As we celebrate another groundbreaking year, we know there is so much more we can accomplish together.

This giving season, your support can empower systems-impacted leaders to thrive and restore justice and opportunity to their families, communities, and over 2 million people impacted by incarceration across the U.S. Please double your impact today.

Onward!
